Deuteronomy 1:6 “…You have stayed long enough at this mountain.”
What if God told you that you could have all that you have ever imagined; a healed heart, broken soul ties, blessings, prosperity, the desires of your heart, a new life as a new creation, and so much more of His promises but all you had to do was follow Him and leave your past behind? You would be eager to submit and say “yes Lord, I will leave it all behind”, but what about when YOUR reality hits, would you keep your word, obey and keep looking ahead?
We all struggle with completely letting go and leaving our past behind even when we KNOW there is nothing for us back there. That ex, that job, that bad habit, those painful memories, even the good ol’ memories, they should all stay where they are, in the past.
Isaiah 43:18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”
How could you truly move forward if you keep going backwards intentionally? How can you be made new if you keep dabbing in the old? How can you be completely free if you are allowing what’s been keeping you down to linger around?
It happens or has happened to the best of us; I personally, am an example. I wanted healing from soul ties desperately from God, and I knew my healing came in exchange of letting go of what was hurting me. I had to leave the wrong people behind me. Unfortunately, I struggled with that and would continue to answer text messages and phone calls. I would try to cut them off, but as soon as I got a little taste of “loneliness”, I would contact those same guys I knew were no good for me. If only I had accepted what certain situations were and not been so wrapped up in how the world handles situations these days, I might have stopped myself sooner. There were plenty of times I had to ask God to forgive me for looking back and dwelling on the “what if’s”; Why, because I was not doing anything but adding more damage to my destruction. I was not helping God help me.
We have to help Him help us.
I am here to tell you that God wants to do great things for you and He wants to heal you and free you from everything that is holding you hostage. He hears your prayers, your cries. He sees your troubles, and He just wants to place you in the right place. He wants to move you away from the destructive lifestyle that you currently live in and bless you with a new life, new strength, and new perspectives. The only thing that is stopping you is your desires that are stuck in this world.
Luke 17:32 “Remember Lot’s wife!”
Listen, you have to give it up, you have to give it all up. It will be worth it. Why are you trying to hold on to your past for anyways? What is it? Fear? Lost of your comfort zone? Unresolved issues? Wishful hoping that ex will change and get it right? Guilt and shame that you will be looked down on by your worldly friends for giving up the party lifestyle? Look, you can keep seeking to solve matters of things in this world on your own, or you can just give it all to God. He will give everything back to you that belong to you. When you go to God and truly repent, confess out your mouth He is your Lord and Savior, you will be on the way to being made new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
With being a new creation, comes obedience, new responsibilities, a new mind, and a daily effort on your part to seek God’s instructions. Right now, God is instructing you to obey and trust Him. Stop looking back. Remember Lot’s wife? She was losing everything of the world, but she had an opportunity to obtain something better. She was so close to the world, that she lost her life looking back when God commanded that she don’t.
Luke 17:33 “If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.”
Looking back is not worth it. Look ahead to what God has for you. Looking back can destroy you and what God has been working in you. The past is the past. Why do you insist to keep going back there? There is nothing new there. You say you want change, you say you want to be delivered, yet you stay so close to the old. You’re so close that you still know what’s going on as if you’re still in that lifestyle. You’re so close that you still look like the old you. God will allow things to happen if you keep allowing yourself to be around those things. Let go and trust God. Leave it in the past. Don’t lose your life trying to keep a little bit of the old. It’s not worth it, trust me. Completely surrender it all. The Lord has great things for you but you have to want what He wants. You have to want a brand new life. Stop giving in to your reality, your thoughts, your feelings, instead give them to God and take the first step… Look ahead!
Philippians 3:12-13 “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead…”
