“I will hear what God the Lord will speak…”Psalm 85:8 NKJV
Today, everything we want and need is so accessible to the point that in exchange we have lost the little patience we possess. If we need an answer we run to Google. When we need advice, we run to our friends and family. Well, Google will not give us the answers we need and our friends and family will tell us only what we want to hear. Why do we run to prayer after all else fail? Why don’t we first turn to prayer before going to Google or to a friend? Is it because we don’t feel like waiting on God’s response? The answer is YES.
A lot of people, wait, no, let me reword that, most Christians don’t turn to prayer for most situations, because they don’t want to wait on God’s answers. Truth is that they don’t give God enough time to speak. God isn’t Google, and He isn’t some genie who can be rubbed and will grant us every single thing and answer we need when WE WANT IT. God would rather us have a genuine two-way relationship with Him. He wants to converse with us. Normally a conversation consists of two people talking, it’s just when we talk to God it is everlasting hence why He says to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
God is saying we are not being patient enough to truly hear the answers to our prayers or to hear what He wants to say to us. Often times we think of prayer as a one way communication method with God. We pour our hearts out to Him, intercede for people then throw in some personal even material requests then go back to our normal day. A lot of us speak to God for maybe about a quick 5 minutes, but expect this huge miracle in our lives to happen. We aren’t tarrying enough, we aren’t fasting enough. We are giving God that minimum praise and expecting a lot of blessings. Now when I say “we”, I am including myself. There are times when I get ready for bed and realize that I haven’t devoted a good enough time for God that day. I start to feel bad because it’s like I’m asking God for all these things, yet I cannot even sit still for 30 whole minutes and just listen. Yes, LISTEN. Listen to what God wants to say. We have to allow God to speak to us.
He can’t do it if you’re always on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram filling yourself up on other people’s lives on social media. You won’t be able to hear His soft yet strong distinct voice if your mind is filled up with anxiety and busyness. You want to know something scary? satan hears your prayers too. So that means that sneaky deceiver can get to work and send you a counterfeit of a prayer you think is an answer from God, but it’s really not. Without patience, you will accept and later find out God had no parts in it. That is why it’s important that we make sure we are spending quality time with God to receive discernment and wisdom. We have to make ourselves available for God. We need to wait on God’s answers and not run to the nearest outlet that looks like it will give us what we want to hear. We can wait for the new season of our favorite show, wait for a movie to come out, wait for payday, but we can’t patiently wait on God’s answer.
We have to start being intentional with this. It is not easy at all, or else I wouldn’t be up at 3 am typing this. Now this is for someone who has been praying for something, but they are still waiting for God to respond. Question: are you seeking Him, have you tried fasting, are you obeying His commandments, are you living a changed life? OR are you expecting God to speak and trying to hear Him with your ears and eyes filled with everything but God?
Example: You are praying for deliverance but you still put yourself in the position to stay in bondage. You’re praying for a break-through yet you are constantly filling your mind with doubt. You are praying for a spouse, but you are entertaining anyone that gives you attention or sleeping with that ex until “God sends the one, or lets you know you’re ex isn’t the one”. If that is the case, please fall on your knees and repent and ask God to remove the lust out of you or you will be creating an ungodly soul tie that will make it harder on you when God tells you he/she is NOT the one. Maybe you are praying for healing, but you keep allowing the doctors to put discouragement in your spirit. Who are you listening to if not God? What are you doing to keep yourself distant from God’s voice?
Today, after reading, go into repentance and ask God to remove anything that is distracting you from hearing Him speak. No more running to others and losing patience. Now is the time to wait and allow God to speak. He will, but you have to be ready in expectancy. While you wait, read your word, there can be stories you could relate to that can motivate you to wait on God. There will even be scriptures that can reassure you that God has not forgotten about you and that your answer is on the way. Maybe His answer is in your bible, at the next sermon at church. Pray pray pray! God will answer, you just have to open your heart and allow Him to speak and when He does, you will know.
