Breakthrough and deliverance is on the other side of your sacrifice. Sadly, many of us hear that word and immediately run. Let’s be honest, who wants to give up things that makes them comfortable?
We create false identities based on those things and to make a sacrifice by giving them up, will strip most of us of everything we’ve ever known. But God has a new identity awaiting those who will give up their old self.
Giving up a sacrifice.
When I realized everything I’ve ever known to be a part of me was not my true identity, I surrendered and allowed God to take me through a process that did not feel good but it opened my eyes to His identity for me.
So, I gave up trying to be perfect; striving was an endless pursuit.⠀
I gave up caring what others think of me; I had to walk in the confidence of who God says I am.
I gave up leaning to my own understanding and appearing to know it all; it turns out I don’t and that’s why I lean to Jesus. ⠀
I gave up listening to the lies surrounding me; it’s okay if I don’t have everything figured out by a certain age.
I gave up setting unrealistic expectations; if I fail at times, I know others will too.⠀
I gave up hating my imperfections; they help set me a part.⠀
I gave up procrastination and inconsistency; I had to get out of my own way.
I gave up chasing the motions; I want Jesus, not just an emotional move at church. I need His everlasting holy presence to shine through me.⠀
I gave up reminiscing and wondering what could have been to things that have ended; the past happened, I’ve learned, I’ve grew, and there’s no need to dwell on the old when God has begun many new things.
I gave up bottling my tears; I’m human, it’s okay to “feel”, but I can’t let how I feel dictate my actions and touch my faith.⠀
I gave up living in my fears; most of them were only scenarios created in my head.
Now that I’ve chosen freedom.
Since I chose to be free, I had to first give up that which hindered and enslaved me. I had to make a sacrifice and give in to surrendering to One who saved me.
I share all of that to remind you today, that when Christ sets us free, we no longer have to be a slave to our old identities.
So, lets chat! Tell me something you have given up or know you must give up, in order to truly walk in your new identity!
