Hey lovelies,
I am working on a series of posts pertaining to living out God’s Word with topics about living holy in a perverse world, being aware of false preachers and teachers, making sure you are not living lukewarm, and more. Today’s post is about striving to live holy, and not being just a Sunday Christian. We are living in the last days, so it is imperative that we obtain power as Christians to be able to stand firm on our faith and not be swayed to and fro with this world.
What is a Sunday Christian?
So, you are probably wondering exactly what is a Sunday Christian? Let’s take a look a scripture:
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2 Timothy 3:5
It is someone who considers themselves a Christian, but only act like one on Sundays, at church. They know how to do church, but they lack the power of a Christian because they don’t truly know God’s Word for themselves. They get their “word” on Sunday, then Monday through Saturday they go back to looking like the world again. Oh, but on Sunday morning, they are back to praising Jesus again.
Listen, just attending church but not applying God’s Word to our everyday lives is dangerous. How can we truly live in the full abundance of what Christ has to offer, if we lack holiness, godliness, and still look like the world?
Appearing godly but lacking the power.
The Lord warns us in His Word about appearing to be godly but having no power. (2 Timothy 3:5). There appear to be many who have accepted Jesus into their lives and have the title as a Christian, but they are still empty inside. They accept Christ, but don’t accept His Word. If they did, they would live out what His Word command of us.
Instead they walk in their own ways:
- Shouting and praising His name in service, and using that same tongue to use profanity and filthy words.
- Singing psalms to worship Him in service, but during the week singing along to secular music that worships and promotes sex, violence, drugs, and money.
- Praying for others at the altar, then go home and gossip about those same people and others.
If we only appear godly during church, but as soon as we leave, we look like the world again, we become a Sunday Christian. Do you really think that’s pleasing to God? When you submit to your flesh, you are denying the power God has invested in you? More seriously, you are dimming the light that is inside of you …
The blind can’t lead the blind.
How can the blind see the light if the ones who hold the truth are walking blindly themselves?
Do you really think living a double life will bring true deliverance and breakthrough to your life?
Just looking like a Christian and a church goer will NOT hold the power to slay these demons and resist the devil. You have to obtain your power through applying God’s Word to your life. That looks like:
- Denying your flesh (Galatians 5:24).
- Unfriending the world (James 4:4).
- Walking in The Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
- Taking up your cross (Matthew 16:24).
When you apply the mentioned above DAILY and not just on Sundays, you will grow in The Lord and be able to sustain and obtain power. Please, stop listening to people who say it is not possible. The popular excuse for not applying God’s Word is “I’m not perfect“.
Don’t believe the hype, it is possible to live holy in a perverse and wicked world and it has nothing to do with being perfect. It is a willingness to want to live as Christ commands us.
YOU HAVE TO WANT TO BE HOLY.
You have to want to be holy. You have to want to undergo the process of being renewed and transformed. God can’t pour in newness if you are holding on to the old inside of you. You have to repent and turn from your ways in order to truly walk in His righteousness.
Do you know how powerful you can be if you walked in His way and put the full armor on?
It’s so sad that many are giving the church a bad rep because there are a lot of Christians misrepresenting what one is … not look like, but is. However, God is stirring up a remnant that will take walk in holiness and show what a Christian looks like.
There will be a generation to take heed.
I believe that there will be a generation that will take heed and repent.
I decree and declare that there will be a generation of true believers, a remnant that will rise and labor in the field for God’s Kingdom. I also decree and declare that there will be a generation of backsliders that will WAKE UP, turn from their double life and REPENT.
The devil will not take all who he think he will with him when Jesus return.
So, let us not just think that going to church is what gets us saved and keep us saved. It is by God’s Grace that we are saved. But, to keep us on track and become Christ like, it is the denying of our flesh and truly applying God’s Word to our lives so He can make us holy, because He is holy (1 Peter 1:16).
So let’s chat, is there anything you can think of in your life that you can apply The Word of God to that you haven’t? If so, here is a prayer you can pray:
Father, thank you for Your Word, it is the tool to help me in this life. I repent of the sins I have picked up from this world and ask that you search my heart and reveal to me areas I have not been applying Your Word. Help me Lord, to read more of Your Word so that I may know Your Ways. I desire to look more like you and be holy, so I ask that you show me how, in Jesus name, Amen.
