Modesty, the standard for Christian Women…

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV

When I recently went shopping I felt like an old lady. I felt everything was “too short”, “too revealing“, or “too cropped”. There was this one dress I tried on and immediately thought, “Ummm, this is not something a woman of God can wear”. I kept asking myself like “where is all the classy stuff, goodness are they shrinking the clothing???”

What’s funny is that I used to wear all that revealing type of clothing and justify it as, “It’s just fashion”. As I started getting closer to God, He started personally convicting me of how I was presenting myself. I loved fashion, still do, but I wasn’t putting biblical standards to thought then. I wasn’t looking like a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). How can I proclaim to be a godly woman, yet I’m wearing things that are saying otherwise? So I eventually had to get rid of all of my mini dresses, crop tops and short shorts and fell in love with long maxi dresses and comfy cardigans. I had to change and be set apart by covering up and dressing like a wholesome church girl (lol).

…”in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, …”
1 Timothy 2:9 NKJV

Today, I LOVE modest clothing. I love dressing in a way that exemplifies a godly woman, that not only honors God, but it will also show respect for my future husband. See, the world is all about revealing everything, but God wants us to start concealing our precious body and covering up (Romans 12:2). Our body should only be uncovered for our husbands. We shouldn’t be walking around showing cleavage, every single curve, or showing off our thighs; like leave something for your husband to look forward to. If you practice dressing modestly and classy now, you eliminate causing your brothers in Christ to stumble by being presented your revealed goodies. In my opinion, the longer the better and the more covered up, the better. You’d actually be surprised at how many cute modest outfits you can put together. One tool I’ve used was Pinterest!

I say all this to remind you that your body is a temple of the Most High and you should strive to glorify Him with it, instead of showing it off. I know in today’s world modesty is looked down upon. Behaving with good morals and dressing in a respectful manner, is down upon. You may feel you will be overlooked by that guy you like, you won’t fit into what’s “trending” this season, you won’t stand out among your friends, or society says that modesty is boring, but why does any of that matter? God will reward you for the little sacrifices you make here on this earth. God called you to be set apart, so that means looking like this world may be out the question.

As you grow in Christ, you will realize that how you present yourself, matters. I know for me, before I matured in Christ, I didn’t know dressing modestly was important. I felt that clothing was fashion, I am expressing myself, it shouldn’t matter what I wear because God sees my heart. Well that is true, God sees my heart, but He also seen that I was more into pleasing others and my flesh with my style, than Him.
I’m not saying there is a certain way to dress, and I am not saying if you dress any other way you are wrong. What I am implying is that as a Christian woman, you should take in consideration what you wear. Ask yourself before you walk out the house, “Am I revealing too much? Is what I am wearing glorifying God or my body? What type of guys will I attract wearing this?” You may think that is doing too much, but can we really do too much for God? I believe a lot of us do too little. Jesus died on the cross for us, the least we can do if we call ourselves Christians, is allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in presenting ourselves to God, our entire being, including how we dress, as holy, sanctified, and an example of what a woman of God should look like.

Dressing modestly is an outward result of an inward change, attributing to the godliness inside of you. [wc_fa icon=”heart-o” margin_left=”” margin_right=””][/wc_fa]
